removing linoleum

After working at the house today I realized that the house looked a lot nicer after we bought it compared to its current state... Basically, the kitchen floor is wet and sticky, large Masonite boards and black sheet plastic cover the floors, some of the walls are ripped down to the dry wall, and most of the lighting fixtures have been removed from the ceilings in prep for the popcorn scraping that is about to commence.

All this to say, we are doing an excellent job tearing the house up! But that's to be expected-- and to be fair, the "before" pictures don't quite show the level of work needed in each space. The house was in great condition compared to what it could have been-- but it still had lots of dated finishes that needed freshening. Before too long it will shine bright-- but for now, its a mess-- a 'progress-made' mess-- be a mess none-the-less.

Plans

Water closet: remove linoleum, remove shower surround, add porcelain tile to floor and ceramic tile to shower surround, re-texture and paint walls, update toilet and replace window.

Vanity: remove carpeting and continue porcelain tile from bath into vanity space. Change cabinetry to a dark finish (perhaps replace with a furniture-style vanity to give continuity between bedroom and vanity space). Update mirror and change light fixture to sconces on either side of mirror.

David's challenge in this space was that the linoleum was laid on top of a wood parquet floor-- removing it was not as easy as we expected :)

* remove wood paneling in entry and family room

David's second project in the house was to remove the paneling in the entry and family room.
