Front Hallway

My project last week was painting our front hallway. Since David did all of the painting elsewhere in the house, I had no idea where all of his supplies were and I wanted to surprise him with this project being completed so I planned out each step.

I spent the last few weeks painting old frames to hang in the hallway. It took longer than I expected since I changed my mind after a few different attempts. In the end I went with a basic white frame and ordered some black and white family pictures.

Also, my original plan for the hallway was to paint horizontal stripes on the walls. But after painting the base coat and navigating around 4 doorways/corners I decided the base coat was going to be just fine! For added excitement there was a 30 minute power outage while I painted the walls Thursday evening ... ah, navigating around wet paint buckets in the dark... good times!

I painted the hallway the same color as the bathroom it is near.

I love the new look and how fresh and clean it is!

After finishing this project I became a painting addict and did touch up work in our entry, dining room, family room and Gavin's room! I need to go back and do some touch-ups in a few more places and then paint our kitchen, master bath and laundry room. It's all coming along quite nicely though!

For those painting novices (like me) these are the tools I used for the job:
(small paint buckets, painter's tape, plastic drop cloth, paint opener, pencil, narrow roller, 2 paint brushes, rag, paint, yard stick and leveler---I did not end up needing the 2 last things; I also used a narrow roller paint plate thing that is not pictured)

The narrow roller and small brush were particularly helpful. Both made my job straight forward and I now feel confident to paint all the other places I need to just as well as my expert-painter-hubs did with the rest of our home!
