Birthday Blunder

Very recently, our little man became a toddler and turned 2. It is so much fun to see him grow in personality and be able to communicate more and more with him.

To celebrate G's birthday we decided to have a few buddies come to our house for a play date. I thought it would be fun to have some balloons and serve his favorite foods: MILK and cookies!

So, last Monday I baked cookies and David blew up balloons. I'd spent time making the snacks and everything was ready for a Tuesday morning play date. Tuesday, August 20th to be exact.
Well, friends, at 10:30 Monday night one of our friends texted me to double check the date of G's party and I kinda laughed it off, thinking, well, it's tomorrow. But before I could respond, she texted back having remembered it was the 27th.

I wasn't sure why she thought it was the 27th, since that was a week away...

So, I checked the e-vite and - yep, I put the WRONG DATE on it.
The WRONG DATE.  The WRONG DATE.  Are you kidding me!
I'd made sugar cookies and jello cups and baking soda fizzies... the WRONG DATE!  Argh! I had the 20th on my calendar but told his buddies it was the 27th.

It was less than 12 hours from when I thought his party would be and I was getting ready to go to bed.  Next thing I know, I kinda wanted to cry and kinda wanted to vomit.  It wasn't an intricate party or some real calamity, I know.  I just couldn't quite believe how ridiculous it was.  Anyhow, I told D and he (super calmly) laughed it off.

So, I texted my sister and asked her if I would be super crazy to text moms and ask them if they were free for an impromptu party the next day.  She gave me the green light and so I used all the gumption I had to text my mom friends at 11 at night.  Afterall, I was trying to save cookies, jello, and baking soda fizzies!

Other than my MOPS group that had a previously planned play date for that day, most of his little buddies were able to come!  Bless those moms! Really, bless them!  Yep. I hosted a birthday party for Gavin that ended up being a surprise party on the guests end.

So, in the end, G got to play with friends (wohoo wohoo) instead of sitting in the backyard with me wondering where everyone was : ( and then having a group of friends "surprise us" on our doorstep on the 27th...

I'll post party pics soon : )
