I made a roman shade!
And am super excited about it :)
I learned how to make it from looking at shades in my mother-in-law's home. Leslie has made at least a couple dozen, and has always spoken highly of the process. I have liked the way roman shades look, but didn't think I had the bandwidth to learn a new skill.
Surprisingly, at least to me, was how much I enjoyed the process of making this shade. Often, I make things to try something new or to have the finished result. But, this shade was also enjoyable to make. Perhaps because the process can't be rushed and there is precision involved. In any case, I recommend these.
I am especially fond of this shade because it pulls together a tailored look in our small space. Considering that the space is limited I've tried to make the finishes nice. It's the small things... we've had the shower curtain and light up for over a year and they always make me smile. And, now the shade is my cherry on top!
when the shade is lowered
raised high... and it'll pull to one more pleat higher
my preferred height
There are quite a few online tutorials for roman shades. Most seemed to lack steps or were not informative enough, for a novice like myself. Also, most were tutorials on faux-roman-shades, fixed shades, or no-sew shades. Having completed this shade, and in comparing my steps to those for the aforementioned, I find the other methods too laborsome, considering those shades was a faux or non-operable.
That being said, I took pictures and notes while making this shade. I plan to share them soon. Along with resources I used that helped.
