While on the kick of ornament making this month I decided to try and replicate the type of ornament my MOPS group gifted us with this year. I think Modge Podge is my newest obsession! I can't belive how much I've used it this month.
It starts with a piece of thin wood. I bought a package of 4 at Hobby Lobby for less than $2.
Using scrapbook paper I covered the wood in modge podge and wrapped it like a gift. Then, let it dry.
Next, I added a coat of mp to one side of the wrapped wood
and placed a picture, cut a little smaller than the surface, to it. (After doing a version of this project with paint, rather than paper, I think I am a paper convert. It goes to much faster!)
After placing the picture, I covered the entire surface of it in mp. (It will dry clear). Making sure to press out any bubbles with my fingers and then re-smoot out the mp.
After letting it dry I followed the same steps to attach a piece of paper with a label of the year on the back side of the wood. Then, I waited a couple days to let both sides cure and dry fully.
Next, up I drilled a hole into the top of the ornament, using D's drill and a small bit. And then pushed ribbon thru to create the finished ornament!
While making an ornament for G's first Christmas, I made ornaments from G's 20 week ultrasound and May Baby's ultrasound in order to have a picture from each year of the little ones. Super simple and I love it!
