Birthday Girl

Monday was my birthday and it was a super day.  David, my family and friends really out did themselves! It was lovely!

For posterity's sake, here is a recap :)
I wore purple, as always.  With my birthday in a Spring month it seems easy to find a new purple or pink something for the day... definitely a tradition I enjoy!

It started with breakfast with my dudes at a local diner.  Next to a new outfit, having a special breakfast was my biggest hope for the day.  I really really like the calmness of a breakfast with family.  And, it seems nice to just start a day off on a sweet note.  D and I enjoyed yummy migas and G had a chocolate chip pancake (that I finished for lunch!)  Afterwards, G and I headed home to play in the backyard.

Next, I decided that G and I should do some sort of fun activity... The first thing I thought of was to go get a pedicure.  But my companion wasn't thrilled with that idea so the next best thought was to organize something.  Yes, I am that much of a nut!  Lately I've let Gavin rummage through my craft supplies as a sensory tub sort-of-thing.  So, it definitely needed my attention.
After a quick trip to Wal-mart and a few stacking bins I whipped this into shape and was super stoked with the results.  I will share them as soon as I add a few more stacking tubs and move it all into the garage workstation.

Later in the morning while I was doing dishes little dude found my purse... Rascal!  I mostly don't mind.  I remember being really interested in my babysitters' purses as a kiddo too.
G made up for it with a sweet card full of hand-drawn confetti (or were they scribbles?)!  David hid it in the house for me to find... smart hubby!
Another cool thing, little man wasn't the least bit cranky all day!  He actually gave me a hug for the first time.  Typically he cuddles up next to me, but he actually wrapped his arms around my neck this time.  LOVE that!
In the evening D showed up with a birthday cookie cake (the best!) and groceries for a dinner he had asked to cook.  Totally unbenowst to me he had something up his sleeve.  I'm sort of in awe with myself that it never occured to me... but I knew something was up based on the twinkle in his eyes.  So I asked him why he looked so rascally.  He then asked me if I noticed how many steaks there were...4... still clueless, he told me that he'd invited our buddies over for dinner.  Wonderful surprise!
I missed taking pictures for the rest of the evening.  But our pals, the Martinelli family, came over for a delicious dinner.  It was a great evening!

Throughout the day my family, pals, and old students of mine called and texted... so sweet of you all!  It is always a great thing to hear from friends!  Next year, D and I will celebrate the big 3-0 so this year is hopefully one for the record books!

And, all this to say... another great thing about the day-
We have a new neice!  Claire Julia was born on Easter Sunday to David's sister, Liz and her husband, Peter. We are soooo exctied to meet her very soon!
