It keeps getting better and better with little dude. It's just so cool being a parent!
* He started running. And running away from us : ( In particular, he will walk to the front door and wait for me when he knows it's time to go somewhere. Then, as soon as I've opened the door and stepped outside, he will give me a fiesty look and run away laughing. We are working on helping him understand this is not cool. On a high note, he is really good about obeying and waiting on the patio for me to lock the door!
* He seems to be over his fear of swings and slides. He likes the glider in our backyard and a super short slide that our friends have in their back yard.
* I love that he likes to sit in our laps or sit next to us on the floor. Next to him saying "mommy and daddy" this is an absolute favorite of ours!
* He imitates all sorts of things. Words, sounds, actions. The other day David quickly unplugged his ipad to work on it. Next thing you know Gavin is winding the cord and putting it back into its drawer in the kitchen. Wow!
* I think his favorite thing to do is walk. He seems to prefer walking at the park over enjoying the swings, slides, or climbing stuff. At home, he walks the kitchen/family room/dining room loop All.Day.Long.
* G has learned how to pull himself up onto the couch.
* He has started asking "Why?" for lots and lots of things. I'm doing my best to give age appropriate answers... I had no idea that it would start so soon.
* He now dances with his whole body. Stomps feet, wiggles hips and legs :)
* He has learned how to blow his nose.
* He picked up on how to cross his arms when he is not happy. It's kinda cute!
* He leans into friends as his way of hugging them. He started hugging me with his arms around my neck just recently. Before it was more of a cuddle than an embrace.
* A couple weeks ago I thought it seemed like not enough of his socks were in the laundry compared to how few were in his dresser. I am a a little obsessed with not losing things, and socks are no different :). Anyhow, a few days later I was changing his crib sheet and pulled his bed away from the wall to find dozens of socks stuffed between his mattress and the wall. Crazy boy! Where did he get that idea? And how long had he been hoarding his socks there? I laughed at the craziness of why he would have ever stored his socks there... anyhow, now I am onto his antics!
* After finding his socks behind his bed I moved his crib a few inches away from his laundry basket to keep him from siphoning socks during nap time. Well, the funny result is that now he is closer to his bedroom door and enjoys opening it when he wakes up.
* He enjoys banging lids together!
* And has started trying to open doors.
* David's parents visited in February and a couple weeks later I made Gran's stew recipe for our family. It is spicy, in a super yummy way, and little man ate up every bite. I like that he can eat our spicy foods! Mexican food is great in Austin, after all!
* He plays a lot.
* We visited the Holderby cousins in March and had a great time! I can not wait to see what these 3 boys have in store for family reunions!
* Gaving loves baby Jackson and cuddled up with him often. Luckily, G's gentle hands are becoming more natural.
* Grandma Linda and Papa John bought him a push pop. He gobbled it up without stopping to take a breath!
* He still loves dancing to music! I think baby claps are some of the best things ever.
* He enjoys being like Daddy
* And helping Daddy with jobs around the house.
* Looking out our front window is his new MO :)
Chitter Chatter
He started pointing with his index finger about a month ago and soon thereafter his vocabulary exploded! Each day comes with a new word or attempt to repeat a word we've said.
* He likes to say "shhh" with his finger over his lips. (Usually when we are in the grocery store and I have asked him to moderate his tone; goofy guy!)
* He speaks up anytime he sees a ball ("baw"), a baby ("bebee") or a bird ("eeee").
* He calls dogs "daws" and will follow it up with "woof woof woof". I find that particularly interesting since I say "ruff ruff" when we read a book with dogs in it.
* He says "go go go" when I pause to look at something while shopping. I think this comes from the Go Dog Go book we read.
* I am surprised that he does not have a word for milk or water yet, since they are such a part of his routine. Instead he just points to cups when he is thirsty.
* When we pull up to the park, or the building where we go for bible study, he shouts "Yay" and points with excitement!
* He loves imitating David's words/sounds. With baseball season starting D is cheering on teams with G imitating right along. G will stop drinking his milk long enough to repeat something and then start drinking milk again :)
* G picked up on the fact I say "alrighty" near the end of phone conversations and will immediatly say "bye bye" to me. It caught me off guard that he anticipated I was about to say bye and cued me into how many times I must say 'alrighty'.
* He says hi to lots and lots of people these days. Usually it's before they would have noticed him.
* He tells us bye bye when we tuck him in at night. Sweet dude!
Some of my favorite words:
mommy (mom EEEE)
no way
up (uppey)
yummy (num num num)
bye bye
bath (baaa)
woah
all done (all dunnn)
apple (appey)
LOVE this update!
