This morning I jumped back onto the project train and finished painting in the kitchen. I tackled the crown molding and touch-ups on the cabinets.
I AM THRILLED to have these 2 things completed. Both are things guests may have never noticed but they have bugged me for quite a while!
Project #1
If you look closely you'll see the new brighter white on the left compared to the old yellowy cream.
Project #2
A year ago we painted our kitchen cabinets and replaced the counter. The previous counter overlapped/sat on the cabinets in a way that left part of the cabinetry covered and therefore, never painted. So, when the new counters were installed a lovely strip of unpainted cabinetry was visible.
This strip bugged me for a year and it took me all of an hour to paint... The hold-up was deciding whether we wanted to put trim in its place or just paint the cabinets. Also, I was a bit hesistant to sand the strip on the cabinets myself. And David's project list is a mile long so this one fell into my lap. If I have learned anything this year, it is to not fear sanding. If I sound ridiculous to you - keep in mind, David does almost all of the remodeling work around here, and he is very good at it. So, my learning to sand something is like him learning to scrapbook. And for the record, he has yet to make a scrapbook ; )
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this update!!!!!!!
If you need paint, Sherwin Williams has a 40% off paint/paint supplies sale that ends tonight!
Blunder alert:
Oh, friends! As quickly as I was excited I realized my error...
If you look at the 2 cabinets in the above picture you will see I did a little touch-up work to the door. I kept thinking they did not blend since the paint had not dried.
I bought latex paint this morning, same satin finish as our old can of cabinet paint. But, our old can of paint was oil based and I did not remember that detail... argh! The irony is that I spent quite a bit of time chatting with the clerks at Sherwin Williams this morning about latex versus oil paint since we are in the planning phase for painting the trim throughout the house. If only that had sparked something in my brain about these cabinets.
So, it looks like I will be re-doing this project sometime in the future. Presumably the next time SW e-mails us about a sale on paint.
I will say, argh, just one more time... ARGH!

Even G noticed my error... he crawled right up to the doors this morning and kept trying to figure out why the texture was inconsistent. I just laughed... my boy notices everything : )
