Zippered Pillow

Recently I've been looking to add some decor to our family room.  Specifically, art to hang above the sofa and pillows for the couch.  We bought a charcoal gray sofa recently and I decided to carry in the blue-gray from the dining room and add raspberry accents in each space.

For pillows, I am using 2 of the champagne pillows that were in our guest room, along with some new additions.

I found a great raspberry/garnet fabric at Calico Corners that I bought for an accent pillow.  And got super excited to find the perfect shade of gray in a pre-made case, to add to the sofa and tie in with the grays in other areas in our house.

I am super stoked that Hobby Lobby carried the exact color of blue-gray that I wanted to add as an accent to the room. I find it great too that the pillow looks just like ones I've liked at other fancy stores :) Using a coupon, it only cost $5 for each of the pillow cases!!

For the raspberry pillow -
I made a pillow case to cover an existing lumbar-ish pillow I had.  I used the tutorial for zippered throw pillows on the Design Sponge blog (link here).  I really liked her tutorial and will use it again and again anytime I need to make a pillow case with a zipper.  It is the easiest explanation I have worked with and I highly recommend it!
I was able to make the accent pillow in 1 nap time from start to finish, and got to use my sewing machine's zipper foot for the first time!  The only thing I'd add to her tutorial is to check that your pattern in facing upwards (if it has a directional flow) before choosing where to install the zipper.  Of course, that is common sense, but I didn't think about that until I was sewing my last side of the pillow.  In any case, it isn't a big deal since her tutorial is for a hidden zipper closure.
