The final part of the workstation/laundry room update is this small space between the two. I'll call it the mud room.
I created this space because I regularly had a problem of having papers stacked on our kitchen counter or on the kitchen table. It looked messy to me, and took up valuable space. So, I decided to move the Ikea Expedit unit to this corner of the garage, which is right outside the kitchen door, so that it can hold items that used to not have a resting place.
* I moved our dry erase board out here and David screwed it into the door for me.
* I attached a small cork board (using mounting tape) to the cubby unit. This cork board is exclusively for coupons. In the past I had a hard time knowing what to do with them - I wanted them both put up but also visible and easy to access. This solves that issue!
* Under the cork board are 3M hooks for my purse and umbrellas.
Decor
* a bulletin board with a bulap basket weave (tutorial here)
* 2 Sterilite stacking units (one holds receipts and one for miscellaneous things like push pins and cell phone cords)
* I made the hey hey sign using paper mache letters decoupaged with scrapbook paper. Since it is my regular greeting to people I figured it could personalize this space : )
Storage
This cubby unit is designated to hold mail, my calendar and things I'm working on that day. It has baskets for all sorts of things as well as two empty ones designated for things that need to be quickly put up if we have guests coming over.
This cubby has been in working order for a couple weeks now and I really like having a place to leave papers out of sight.
That's all, friends! This project is done and I am breathing easy knowing I feel more organized. It took time and persistence to just get out there and work on it. But now it's done and and ready to function!
This space looks great!
