Each year I randomly make a "I love my husband" cake. Corny, yes- but it makes hubs smile and always catches him off gurad. This year I tried out a new recipe from a friend. A chocolate cake mix with mini chocolate chips and topped with whipped cream. Easy and DELICIOUS!
This summer, my sister and I met up in our old hometown for breakfast and a drive down memory lane. We were so excited to see that our old house had such stunning landscaping. Everything mom and dad planted while we lived there is so big and beautiful. The new homeowner has done a great job taking care of the yard. We drove away wanting to plant crepe myrtels at our own homes.
I attended my good friend's bachelorette party this summer. Her step- mom hosted a brunch for the group. It was soooo cute... I am crazy enough to take a picture of one of the platters. I thought it was so pretty!
I officially used coupons for the first time this summer. I saved $6... wohoo! No, not a big savings- but definitly something on my bucket list. I sound lame... but, I had been wanting to try out the whole couponing thing. It can be a lot of work. But with some helpful tips from my couponing friend I made a pain free go at it.
Shoe on the left = $70, shoe on the right = $10/free with BOGO.
I needed some fancy-ish flats for a friend's wedding and went out to find the shoe on the left. Later that day I happened upon the SAME shoe at Payless. Needless to say, I returned the pricey shoe and was stoked to have the same look for less! This was a huge blessing!
We checked out GiGi's cupcakes in July. PRETTIEST cupcakes I've ever seen. Very good too!
A year ago I started a home maintenance binder with all sorts of categories and to do lists. (It's been sooooo helpful). One of the categories is "Above & Beyond". A&B is essentially a list of things to do but without deadlines. I made much of this 20+ page list right before and just right after little man was born. It was one of the highlights of this summer to check off everything on the list!!!
Again, I'm showing my lameness. Let me explain... checking off to dos has been a habit I've always gained satisfaction from. Then, I became a mom. Since having our little boy I've learned that most projects take much more time to finish AND I've also learned to not base a day's worth or my sense of productivity on a check list. It had never been an intetional thing to base productivity on a list before G- but after G I learned that if I evaluated the worth of each day based on completed tasks I would lead a life that missed the bigger picture. So, this 1-2 month list of tasks turned into a 12 month ordeal... so glad to have it done and so glad to have gotten more out of it than just a bunch of completed projects : )
