Our plan for remodeling the living room includes updating the fireplace. It works just fine but I do not care for the old fashion brass doors and with Texas weather we will not need to burn wood in it. My plan has been to remove the doors and fill the firebox with candles of varying heights.
Last week I decided to research how to remove the glass doors. It turned out to be super straightforward and easy for me to do. I unscrewed two large screws attaching the bottom corners of the doors to the brick. The top two corner brackets and screws had rotted out, so they were not attached at all. With a couple firm pulls I got the doors off the fireplace.
Next, I vacumed out the firebox with our shop vac. Soooo handy to have!
Then, I started scrubbing the soot off. A friend recommended I use soap and hot water. I did do that but then I also used Scrubbing Bubbles to help speed the process along.
