Family Round-Up - June 2014

Corbin
Our newest addition is a very calm baby.  His big accomplishments are eating, smiling, and sleeping well.  Oh, and he has totally captivated all of our hearts : ) At home he hangs out in his swing or on his play mat, and he likes to sleep in a rock-n-play.  When we leave the house he likes to chill in a wrap that I wear - he just nestles in and falls asleep!

Gavin
This is the summer of fire trucks and cranes for G.  He is infatuated with them.  He is also quite enamored by his yellow hard hat.  He wears it EVERY SINGLE DAY for hours at a time; as in, his hair is sweaty when he takes it off.  As his mommy I get the privilege of wearing a matching hat.  It's actually one of the highlights of my summer: G bringing me the hat and asking me to wear it while he walks around in his hat.
He was stoked to realize Fireman Sam wears a yellow hat just like Gavin.  Fireman Sam is a British cartoon we found on you tube... G loves Sam ; )

Me
I'm a list maker and goal setter... each season I try to make a list of goals.  My summer goals:
   1) cuddle with my baby as much as possible

   2) enjoy summer activities with G
3) relax with David... this season of life has us tired and often (too) busy
4) read books --- specifically historical fiction to help give me a better picture of life during the Old Testament.  I've made the Chronicle of the Kings series my summer reading material.
5) Eat BBQ --- in the past I haven't been the biggest fan of BBQ but decided (as a Texan) I owe it to myself to try to learn to like it.  So far we've dined out once at a popular place in Elgin and we made bbq chicken on July 4th.  I hope to check out some of the popular bbq places in Austin this summer too.
6) Abstain from house projects. David is particularly fond of this goal ; )

What I've been up to:
* I've decided cherry is my most favorite pie filling.  My mother-in-law made cherry pie after C was born and froze some individual/couple sized pies for us and I don't think I've ever had a pie I love more... all that to say I am in search of a pie recipe like it!
* As much as I love a good tea party I equally like the idea of being a competitive athlete in something risky - like skateboarding, dirt bikes, sky diving... So, since high school I've hoped that one day I would get to attend the X-Games and watch all the masters do their thing.  So, it was a big and awesome surprise when David randomly got me tickets to go to the games this year.  Without even realizing it, he was fulfilling a dream of mine.  Talk about all the coolest random sports in one location!
* I experienced a personal victory (lol) during one of the boys' nap times and cleaned our oven (it's literally been on my to do list since we moved into this home). The reason I wanted to clean it was to remove a grease stain in between the outer door and inside door's glass. After lots of other options, Fantastik made all the difference in getting the grease stain off!

David
* post bath snuggles with C
* David is starting to teach G how to throw/catch a ball.  Talk about adorable : )
* Big guy and mini playing in the sprinkler
* After a joint trip to the grocery store they came home with matching shades.  It's truly awesome how they love each other.
*He's always impressing me with his mad skillz - case in point - here he is rebuilding the brakes on his truck.  I think it is interesting how different our skill sets are -- I love that he can do so many repair things, and I know he likes that I can bake cakes (lol)
